Barbara Nicks, devoted mother of rock legend Stevie Nicks, died peacefully at her home in Paradise Valley, Arizona on December 28th, 2011 after a brief battle with pneumonia. She was surrounded by friends and family including her son Christopher Nicks, daughter Stevie Nicks and granddaughter Jessica Nicks. She was 84 years old. Nicks was married for 63 years to the late Jess Nicks former president of Greyhound/Armour Dial and a rock and roll concert promoter. Barbara was born in Bisbee, Arizona in 1927. After living in various cities across the country, she and Jess settled in Paradise Valley in 1972. She was active in several philanthropic activities including St. Judes Children’s Hospital, The City of Hope, Wounded Warrior Project, Disabled American Veterans, Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Salvation Army, which helped her family out as a young girl. "My mom had the power within her to heal and guide so many of us...She supported me and all of my dreams. She was the one that made it all possible," commented her daughter Stevie. There was no funeral service but a memorial will be held later in the year. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle where a special fund has been formed in memory of Barbara Nicks.
